Homecoming by: Kanye West

(West, Kanye. “Homecoming” Roc-A-Fella. 13 May 2008. Radio.)

“Homecoming” is a song by American rapper Kanye West about his hometown Chicago. In this song he depicts and personifies his hometown of Chicago as a women. Listening to the song you think he is referring to a woman but it turns out he is actually talking about his hometown Chicago. The goal is to creatively express his love for something his hometown by creatively expressing it and catching the audience attention. I used the song as a reference while creating my project. You see I had the same idea as Kanye in writing a story about my relationship with Writing who I portray as a person instead of the action of writing that I am actually talking about. This is similar to what he did in his song as it sounds as if he is talking about a woman but actually he is talking about his hometown Chicago in which he is portraying as a woman. This concept of personification in Kanye’s song helped me with the personification in my story it helped me with developing ideas for how I was going to make it work and be as creative and interesting as Kanye was in his song. I found this useful for me because it was a bit hard at first to figure out how to go about it ad there were many other helpful creative examples to use a prototype.

I used the One Story website to inform myself with more information about One Story so I could get a better feel for what my story should be like and what it is One Story is about and what they do. Looking at the website was even helpful for me to see what the One Story books look like so I can design mine accordingly. It was also helpful to get a feel for what kind of stories they publish.
